Species and their Traits

Trout, which here where I live generally means Brookies, Browns, Rainbows, and Lakers, can usually be found in the same rivers, lakes, and ponds in the Northeast, but each one has distinct preferences for forage and water types, as well as temperatures.

The species page is here to help you know what it is you've caught. Since the laws and bag limits vary by species, proper ID can be very important. I am only listing the most popular and sought after fish in my area. I hope to add more info as I get it and am still working on this section. Check back as I am always updating.

Pay close attention to the Stocking list! Remember to Catch and Release or they never get big!! Always get permission from landowners and carry out more than you carry in! The Laws of the State of Maine are varied and may be obtained here at  Maine Inland Fisheries & Wildlife
