Equipment

This page will cover the miscellaneous equipment that you may not need but I always find handy to have. Such as Baskets,  Augers,  Spoon/chipper,  Creepers/Cleats,  Depth Sounders,  Tipups, Sleds, and other time and work savers. In the early winter when the ice is thin, you may be all set with just a chisel. When the hard freeze comes you will need at least a hand drill and preferably a power auger. You may also need a shovel to clear the snow, or snowshoes to get through deep powder if you are on foot. One thing I find is most ice fisherman are the friendly sort and you may be able to get the holes drilled for a cold brew or some sort of trade. Once the hole is drilled you need a slotted spoon to clear the slush. Not a kitchen spoon but a big sturdy one since slush is heavy. Clear enough away so that the trap will sit flat and let the reel spin properly. Make sure you have your sunglasses, hat, chapstick etc......

Always get permission from landowners and carry out more than you carry in! Remember to Catch and Release or they never get BIG!!!
